Google Maps rank checker
See where your business ranks on Google Maps from every street around it, not only where you happen to be standing. PinRipple runs the same search from a grid of spots and maps your position at each one, in about five minutes.
Why checking from your own phone is not enough
Google Maps puts a different list in front of each customer. Its own help page says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence, and that distance is how far each business is from the person searching. So you can be first when you search from your shop and fourteenth two kilometres away.

Your phone also uses your own search history, and you probably search for your own business often. A rank checker searches from fixed spots, without anyone's history, so this week's result can be compared with last week's.
How the local rank checker works
Add your business
Open it in Google Maps, tap Share, copy the link and paste it into PinRipple. A name and town works too.
Choose your search terms
Type the words your customers use, up to 10 per check, such as “dentist”, “emergency dentist” and “dentist near me”. Each term gets its own map.
Choose the grid
From 3 × 3 to 15 × 15 spots, reaching from 200 m to 50 km around you, as a square or a circle. For a shop in town, 7 × 7 spots over 2 km is a good start.
Read your map
PinRipple searches Google Maps from every spot, as a customer standing there would, on a computer or a phone, and reads the top 100 results. The map is ready in about five minutes.
What the results tell you
- Average position across every spot. Anything below 20th counts as 21, the usual convention. Lower is better.
- Spots in the top 3: where you appear in the map pack, the three results people see first.
- At the business: where you come in at your own door. If you are not in the top 3 there, the problem is usually the profile itself.
- Your real rivals: the businesses that come out on top most often across the grid, with their rating, reviews and distance from you.
After each check, PinRipple lists what to fix first, in plain words, and compares your Google profile with your top 3 rivals: categories, reviews, photos, opening hours, website and description. Our guide on how to rank higher on Google Maps explains each change.
What a check costs
One credit is one spot on the grid for one search term. A 7 × 7 check of one term uses 49 credits; three terms use 147. The 15-day free trial gives you 1,000 credits with no card, enough for about 20 checks of 7 × 7. After that, plans start at $9 a month for 5,000 credits.
| Scan | Worked out | Credits |

| One search term, 7 × 7, express | 49 × 2 | 98 |

Rank checker or rank tracker?
A one-off check tells you where you stand today. Tracking tells you whether your changes work. In PinRipple, any check can repeat every week (every day from the Growth plan), and you get an email when an automatic check shows a drop, plus a summary every Monday. Each business also has a report link you can send to a client or a colleague.
Questions
Is the Google Maps rank checker free?
The first 15 days are free, with 1,000 credits and no card: enough for about 20 checks of 7 × 7 spots. After that, plans start at $9 a month.
How accurate is it?
Each spot is a real Google Maps search made from that location, reading the top 100 results, without anyone's search history. Your phone may still show something else, because Google also uses your location and your history.
Which grid size should I use?
Cover the area your customers come from. For a shop or clinic in town, start with 7 × 7 spots over about 2 km. For a business that travels to customers, use a wider grid. A circle leaves out the corners and uses fewer credits.
Can I check a competitor's ranking?
Yes. You can add any business on Google Maps, and every check also lists the businesses that come out above you.
Does it work outside the US?
It works anywhere Google Maps does. Searches can be made in English or French.
